A SHORT HISTORY
The property, to the surprise of many, has never been owned by the state or any government agency, but by private individuals. In 1933, the property was developed as a recreational fishing camp. This paved the way for the 1955 opening of The Scenic Natural Bridge Tourist Resort. Two of the original stone structures still stand. The resort closed to the public in the 1960's. Later, the property was given a new look, and it served as a venue for country music concerts. Such well-known artists as George Jones, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Milsap, and Bill Monroe performed during the 1980's in the lovely outdoor amphitheater. Tennessee Fitness Spa, which opened in 1991, is family-owned and operated.
NATURAL BRIDGE
Tennessee Fitness Spa is located 95 miles southwest of Nashville, Tennessee at beautiful Natural Bridge. This historic site is the only known double span natural bridge formation in the world. It is a purely natural formation that was formed over millions of years by nature. Indians used the site over several different periods of history. Tribes including the Yucci Indians from Mexico, the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muskogean, and Creeks, walked the trails around Natural Bridge long before the white man came to this country. The site is bordered by Forty-Eight Creek which is crystal clear cool water. Many species of fish can be seen from the banks. Another popular creation of nature on the grounds is the "Ice Cave." The temperature in the cave is a cool 58 degrees year-round, with a stream flowing out of the cave. Entertainment is provided on special occasions by local musicians, guest speakers, and story tellers. The Natural Bridge is only open to the public on Sundays. If you are not a guest and wish to see the Natural Bridge, please call us at (931)722-5589.
